Berks driver in Schuylkill crash

A Berks County driver escaped injury in a one-vehicle crash that occurred about 1:32 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, along SR895 (Summer Valley Road), in East Brunswick Township, Schuylkill County.

State police at Frackville said Joshua M. Elkind, 20, of Reading, was driving a 2006 Ford Focus eastbound when the car entered the westbound lane while rounding a right turn. Elkind lost control of the car, which went onto the south berm and struck a tree with the rear end. It then overturned onto its roof. The car came to rest on its roof along the berm.Assisting at the scene were volunteers from the New Ringgold and West Penn Township fire companies.Troopers indicated Elkind was cited for the crash.Troopers also reported investigating a crash about 5:07 a.m. on Wednesday along SR61 in North Manheim Township. Troopers said William Grabowski, 44, of Nanticoke, Luzerne County, was driving a 2006 Chevrolet G31 southbound when he observed a deer in his lane of travel. He swerved to avoid the animal, which caused his vehicle to strike a concrete barrier separating the north and southbound lanes.Grabowski sustained a minor injury and was taken to the Schuylkill Medical Center-S. Jackson St., Pottsville. His vehicle was towed from the scene.Troopers cited Grabowski for driving on roadways laned for traffic.
