Gun report triggers lockdown at Marian

Police from Schuylkill County converged on Marian High School, Hometown, on Sunday afternoon when a report of a man carrying a rifle case near the school during a girls' basketball game caused immediate concern.

The Marian girls' basketball team played host to Dunmore High School. Media reports indicated the school was in lockdown after the gun report surfaced.Reports are the Rush Township Police Department received the report at 3:54. Police responded and secured the school, continuing to do a search of the premises. A supervisor at the Schuylkill County Communications Center in Pottsville was reported to have said police were not able to locate anyone with a gun.Authorities said the two teams were moved to a downstairs room to wait for state and local police to address the situation. After the game, the Dunmore girls were escorted to their waiting bus.The Rush Township police were assisted by state police from the Frackville barracks and municipal police from Tamaqua, Kline Township, McAdoo and Mahanoy City.
