Marian, Tamaqua and JT spikers win

Marian, Tamaqua and Jim Thorpe pulled off Schuylkill League volleyball victories on Tuesday night.


Marian-Williams Vy.

Marian tuned up for Thursday's showdown with Pottsville Nativity by crushing Williams Valley, 25-12, 25-5, 25-12, in a Schuylkill League match.

Setter Abby O'Donnell had a big match for the Fillies (8-1) with 35 assists and eight aces. Grace Boyle led the way at the net with 17 kills. Also playing well for Marian were, Abigail Stankiwietz (six kills); Mauren Klope (five kills, four digs); Emily Pilla (four kills, three aces); Lauren Nietz (four aces) and Ashton Galasso (five digs).

Sch. Haven-Tamaqua

Tamaqua rallied for a dramatic 20-25,16-25, 26-24, 25-20, 15-11 Schuylkill League victory over Schuylkill Haven.

Carly Trovinger did a little bit of everything for the Raiders as she finished with 31 assists, 11 service points, seven kills, five aces and four digs. Also contributing to the victory were Jaclin Valasek (11 kills, nine service points, five aces); Rebecca Minehan (11 kills, nine service points, five digs, three aces); and Rylee Devlin (eight kills).

Pleasant Vy-Stroudsburg

Stroudsburg swept Pleasant Valley in a battle of Mountain Valley Conference unbeatens, 25-17, 25-18, 30-28.

MacKenzie Dorney had 13 digs, four kills and one ace for the Bears. Kiesten Griesback added 20 assists and four digs. Courtney Miller had eight kills and three blocks.

Panther Vy-Jim Thorpe

Jim Thorpe defeated Panther Valley in a Schuylkill League thriller, 23-25, 25-16, 25-13, 10-25, 15-10.

Jim Thorpe got strong performances at the net from Jocelyn DeMarco and Makenzie Walck, who both had 11 kills and three blocks. Also playing well for the Olympians were Riley Carroll (23 assists, 11 digs); Erin Shigo (20 digs, five kills, five aces); Dara Conte (22 digs, 11 aces); Nicole Nace (six kills); and Molly McArdle (12 digs).

Panther Valley standouts included Jessica Wiese with nine kills, eight digs and four assists, and Kayla Kashlak with 17 service points, seven digs and three aces.


PM East-Lehighton

Lehighton defeated Pocono Mountain East, 2-1, in Mountain Valley Conference action.

Anthony Rossino led the way for the Indians scoring both goals.

Tyler Dietz had seven saves for the Indians.

ES North-Pleasant Vy

Pleasant Valley posted a 2-0 Mountain Valley Conference victory over East Stroudsburg North.

The Bears' goals were scored by Noah Fulcomer and Justi Habick.

Pleasant Valley had an 8-2 edge in shots.

No. Schuylkill-Tamaqua

Tamaqua defeated North Schuylkill, 3-1, in Schuylkill League action.

Goals for the Raiders were scored by Josh Delp, Steve Billet, and Matt Sweigart.

Roberts scored North Schuylkill's lone goal on a penalty kick in first half.

Pottsville-Jim Thorpe

Jim Thorpe rallied to tie Pottsville 2-2 in a Schuylkill League match.

The Olympians' Steve Principe scored a first half goal off an assist from Cody Geiser.

Then, after the Crimson Tide took a 2-1 lead, Jeremy Annan tied the game for Jim Thorpe with 27:38 remaining in the second half. Annan's goal came off an assist from Matt Miller.

Pottsville finished with an 18-16 edge in shots. Olympian goalie Zach Nace made 16 saves.



Lehighton's boys and girls teams both went 2-0 in the Mountain Valley Conference meet.

Lehighton's match with PMW ended 27-27 with the Indians winning the tie-breaker. The Indians' Mike Blacketter finished in first place in the boys race with a time of 18:41.

Jennifer Beers of Lehighton finished second in the girls meet with a time of 20:49.

Northern Lehigh-Palisades-Pen Argyl-Salisbury-Wilson-Catasauqua

Northern Lehigh's boys went 3-2, while the girls squad went 0-2 in a multi-team Colonial League meet.

The Bulldogs' Gavin Kemery finished second and had a time of 17:21.

Nina Schnyder was the only runner for the NL girls. She finished 18th and had a time of 24:18.

The Lady Bears finished in the top three spots and managed to sweep both the Cavaliers and Timberwolves in an MVC meet.

Sam Young continued her hot pace crossing the finish line in 19:20 and teammates Liz Eberhardt and Kirsten Eberhardt finished second and third.

In the boys meet, Seth Slavin of Pleasant Valley finished first in 17:30 as the Bears also swept East Stroudsburg South and North.

Wilson-No. Lehigh

Northern Lehigh cruised past Wilson, 9-0, in a Colonial League game.

Northern Lehigh controlled the entire game by accumulating 23 shots on goal and 17 corners.

Bulldog goals were scored by Erika McKay (3), Kelsey Follweiler (2), Shannon Weil (2), Jessie Olewine and Cheyenne Mazzocca. Getting assists were Taryn Kemmerer and Ashley Mulchay.


Northwestern defeated Palisades, 2-0, in Colonial League action.

The Tigers accumulated 13 corners and 10 shots on goal in the victory.

Both Tiger goals were scored by Kassie Kilanowski. Gabby Marushak and Kylee Bennett each had assists.

So. Lehigh-Palmerton

Southern Lehigh got a Colonial League road win defeating Palmerton, 3-0.

Marshall had a pair of goals and Frawley added one for Southern Lehigh.

Palmerton's Candace Keck had 16 saves.

PM East-Lehighton

Hannah Mader scored a pair of goals as the Cardinals picked up a 4-1 win over the Indians in Mountain Valley Conference play.

Riley Durishin scored the lone goal for Lehighton ( (5-5). Lauren Burrows had eight saves in goal for the Tribe. Maddie Scheuch had seven for Pocono Mountain East.


Lehighton-PM East

Pocono Mountain East defeated Lehighton, 4-1, in Mountain Valley Conference action.

Riley Durshin scored the lone Indian goal at the 22 minute mark.

Goals for PME were scored by Hannah Mader (2), Mollie Higgins, and Laura O'Malley.

Pleasant Valley-ES North

The Lady Bears scored seven goals in the first half and rolled to a 9-1 Mountain Valley Conference win over the Timberwolves.

Gabrielle Lucchese scored four goals, while Keri Dekmar added a hat trick for Pleasant Valley. Ema Sabovic and Dana McAllister added the other two scores.

Hailey Parks had three saves for the Bears as the locals outshot the Timberwolves 18-3.


PM East-Pleasant Valley

Pleasant Valley defeated Pocono Mountain East, 6-1, in a Mountain Valley Conference match.

The Bears improve their record to 12-4 on the season with the victory.

Pleasant Valley got singles wins from Madison Olexson and Emily Thek.

Schuylkill League Girls Championship

North Schuylkill's Justine Paul fired a round of 83 to win the Schuylkill League Individual Championship at Hidden Valley Golf Course.

Marian's Monica Wasik was third with a 98, while Arianna Srinivasen was fourth with a round of 100 for the Fillies.

Competitors only played 16 holes.
