A Nesquehoning woman faces theft charges for allegedly stealing jewelry from a nursing home resident.

Tonya Napolitano, 30, of 333 W. Mill St., faces charges of theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property, filed by borough Officer Steven Homanko.According to an affidavit of probable cause, Homanko was dispatched to Maple Shade Meadows nursing and rehabilitation center on Aug. 6. He spoke with a Melanie Goodman, who told him one of the residents had noticed some of her jewelry was missing.Homanko retrieved a printout of all nursing home employees. Fellow Officer Timothy Wuttke accessed a precious metals website and found a name on it with the employee sheet, Napolitano's.Officers Dane O'Brien and Homanko interviewed Napolitano at the police station. Napolitano denied any involvement with the thefts, and thought police wanted to talk to her about her grass being too high.O'Brien showed her several pieces of paperwork concerning the jewelry and Napolitanio became extremely upset and confessed to the thefts.Napolitano said she went into a resident's room to wake her for breakfast and dress her. She went into the bathroom and saw the resident's engagement and class ring on the sink.Napolitano said she was "having extreme financial problems" and took the rings to a pawnshop in Lehighton.
