Baddick leads Colts; Lady Bears stay hot

Marian posted wins in both baseball and softball Wednesday, while Pleasant Valley's softball team rolled to its 11th straight victory.

The Colts downed Weatherly while the Fillies edged Schuylkill Haven and the Lady Bears destroyed Pocono Mountain West.

Northern Lehigh earned its first league victory in baseball, while Northwestern and Tamaqua also gained wins.



Marian used solid pitching and timely hitting en route to a 7-1 Schuylkill League win over Weatherly.

Colts' starter Peter Baddick allowed only hit while striking out six in earning the win.

Anthony Agosti paced the Marian offense, going 2-for-3 with a run scored and a double.

Brett Stallone had Weatherly's only hit.

Tamaqua-Pine Grove

Brett Kosciolek's two-hit, 11 strikeout performance on the mound was enough to help lift Tamaqua to a 4-2 Schuylkill League Division I victory over Pine Grove under the lights.

Matt Roberts sparked the Blue Raiders' offense with two singles, while both Kosciolek and Derek Rottet added a single and two RBIs.

Tamaqua improved to 11-4 overall and 8-1 in the SL.

Pen Argyl-No. Lehigh

Northern Lehigh used a late inning surge to pull out a 4-0 Colonial League win over visiting Pen Argyl.

Tyler DiBilio led the Bulldogs with a single, run scored and two RBIs, while Drake Steele added a double and two RBIs.

The Green Knights' Scott Ackerman finished with two singles.

Northern Lehigh earned its first league victory (1-11) and moved to 2-13 overall.

Northwestern hung on to post a 5-4 Colonial League win over host Palmerton.

Austin Yanek led the Tigers with two singles and two RBIs.

Lee Kuntz sparked the Bombers with three singles and two runs scored, while Mick Sanders added a single and two RBIs.

Northwestern improved to 11-6 overall (7-6 CL), while Palmerton fell to 4-10 (2-10).

Pottsville-Jim Thorpe

Pottsville only needed five innings to hand Jim Thorpe a 17-1 Schuylkill League setback.

Mike Kuppernavage led the Tide with three singles, while Connor Hinchliffe added two doubles.

Pat Duvigneaud paced the Olympians with two singles, while Ian Sterling recorded a triple and Christian Gavornik chipped in with a double.

Jim Thorpe slipped to 1-13 overall and 0-10 in the league.

Pleasant Valley-PM West

Pocono Mountain West used a six-run fourth inning to help gain an 8-5 upset over Pleasant Valley in Mountain Valley Conference action.

Tim Donadio led the Panthers (3-11; 2-7), going 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI.

Pleasant Valley's Chris Burke hit a home run in the loss.

The Bears dropped to 11-4 overall and 7-2 in the MVC.

Schuylkill Haven-Marian

Marian rallied for two runs in the bottom of the seventh to defeat Schuylkill Haven, 2-1, in Schuylkill League play.

Kaitlin Kowker paced the Fillies with three hits and also had the game-winning RBI. Alex Stroia and Sam Faust had three hits apiece.

Bethany Shaud got the win for Marian, striking out nine without allowing a walk.

With the win, Marian improvesd to 9-6 overall and 4-6 in the league.

Pleasant Valley-PM West

Pleasant Valley easily pushed its winning streak to 11 games, cruising to a 25-0 Mountain Valley Conference win over Pocono Mountain West.

Jordan Meckes went 4-for-4, which included two singles, two doubles, four runs and six RBIs, to lead the Bears' offensive attack.

Jade Bale (three singles, four runs, two RBIs) and Madison Shaneberger (three singles, three runs, one RBI) also contributed to the victory while Hailey Marini blasted a home run, scored three runs scored and knocked in three.

Winning pitcher Kiersten Griesback finished with a two-hit shutout.

Pleasant Valley remained unbeaten in the MVC at 9-0 and moved to 11-4 overall.

East Stroudsburg South used a three-run rally in the seventh to overtake Lehighton for a 5-4 Mountain Valley Conference win.

Kim Fryer had the game-winning triple in the top of the seventh for the Cavaliers, who trailed 4-0 after four innings. She went 2-for-4 on the day with an RBI and a run scored.

Jocelyn Snyder paced Lehighton, going 3-for-4 at the plate. Chelsea German, Sam Snyder and Brooke Lucykanish each had a double and an RBI for the Lady Indians (3-12; 1-8).

Pen Argyl jumped on Northern Lehigh early en route to an 8-0 Colonial League win.

Emily Smull got the win for Pen Argyl, going seven innings and striking out seven while only allowing one hit. Smull also paced the offense, going 2-for-2 at the plate with two runs scored, a walk and a sacrifice fly.

Kianna Marlatt had Northern Lehigh's only hit.

Northern Lehigh fell to 8-9 overall and 5-8 in the league.

Pottsville jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, cruising to a 13-0 win over Jim Thorpe in Schuylkill League play.

Jocelyn DeMarco had two of the Lady Olympians' five hits.

Pleasant Valley cruised to a 16-2 win over East Stroudsburg North for its eighth consecutive win.
