Fillies cruise past PV

Marian and Palmerton both used fast starts to post softball victories on Tuesday.


Panther Vy.-Marian

The Fillies scored too many runs early on for the Lady Panthers to hang with them, as Marian defeated Panther Valley, 10-0, in six innings.

Sam Faust's four hits led the way for Marian, while Abbey Hill had a double and a triple with three RBIs. Bethany Shaud also had a double and a triple, and Lindsay Nemeth contributed two hits and two RBI. Shaud was impressive from the mound, as she struck out four in the two-hit shutout.

Kristin Gates and Sam Zlock had a hit apiece for Panther Valley.

Saucon Vy.-Palmerton

Palmerton scored seven runs in the first inning and never looked back, beating Colonial League foe Saucon Valley 9-1.

Janel Tracy led the Bombers' attack by going 2-for-3 with a double, a homerun, three RBI and two runs scored. Teammate Abby Reimer also recorded two hits and two RBI.

Megan Peck was 2-for-2 as well for Palmerton (10-4, 8-4), while Alyssa Acker added a solo homer in the sixth.

Freshman pitcher Kendra Pekurny struck out six en route to earning the victory.

Palisades scored five runs in the fourth inning to blow the game open and went on to defeat Lehighton 10-4 in non-league softball.

Jocelyn Hunsicker had a big day for the Lady Indians, as she went 4-for-4 with a RBI and two runs scored. Teammate Kelsey Andrews also had a RBI.

Lehighton drops to 3-11 (1-7) with the loss.

Mahanoy Area-Weatherly

The Golden Bears scored two runs in the top of the 9th to pull out a 3-1 extra inning win over the Lady Wreckers in a Schuylkill League Division II contest.

Erin Dougherty's RBI double in the first inning was the only hit for Weatherly off of winning pitcher Ashley Hullihan.

Minersville blanked Weatherly, 12-0, in a Schuylkill League game.

The Wreckers (1-12, 1-11) had just four hits in the game.

Pleasant Vy.-Delaware Vy.

Pleasant Valley beat up on Delaware Valley, 16-2.

Jenna Scheller was the winning pitcher and had four hits including two home runs. Alyssa Kotzmann, Naomi Morales and Taylor Steckel each added two hits.


Blue Mtn. Invitational

Tamaqua's Junior High track team had three firsts at the Blue Mountain Invitational recently.

Monika Shimko broke the tape in the 400 and also teammed with Janette Kabana, Kailee Carroll and Nicole Wasserleben to win the 3200 relay.

The Raiders' team of Mackenzie McVicker, Kabana, Carroll and Wasserleben also won the 1600 relay.

Adam Melnick turned in a second-place finish in the mile while Wasserleben placed third in the mile.
