Horses & Horizons open house Sunday

Horses and Horizons Therapeautic Learning Center (HHTLC) in West Penn will be holding an open house this Sunday in celebration of their 20 years of operation. Organizers stress that all are invited. They are hoping to see current riders and volunteers with their families, as well as new faces and former riders and volunteers.

HHTLC, a 501(c)(3) registered non-profit organization, which was founded in 1993. It is located at Helping Horse Farm, between the towns of Tamaqua and New Ringgold.HHTLC is staffed entirely by volunteers. Harvey and Elaine Smith own the farm and facilitate the riding program. Both are Pennsylvania Qualified therapeutic riding instructors. In addition to teaching the lessons, the Smiths also care for the program's horses and maintain the facility. The Smiths have been involved with therapeutic horseback riding since 1985. For several years prior to founding HHTLC, they operated the eastern branch of the Schuylkill County Therapeutic Riding Program. Harvey is a licensed occupational therapist.The open house will consist of multiple activities. Lesson demonstrations will take place at 2:00 pm., with a RMH Charities grant presentation at 2:45 p.m. In addition, there will be free carriage rides, a Chinese auction, something special for the children and a chicken barbecue.The center is located at 375 Zion's Stone Church Rd., New Ringgold.
