Agnes Shafer celebrates 93rd birthday
Agnes Shafer, a resident of The Village at Palmerton observed her 93rd birthday on Feb. 17.
Originally from Albrightsville, she worked in several factories, where she became a very talented seamstress.
"I did a lot of things, sewing, crocheting and knitting, but sewing was my favorite," said Agnes. "Me and my granddaughter, Robin made a shower curtain and drapes for her home and that was very special."
Agnes was one of those women other ladies would aspire to be: the perfect cook, baker and seamstress.
Whenever she had a family gathering, Agnes always outdid herself in the kitchen, making a yummy dessert that would be gone in a flash. Her specialty was cinnamon buns.
"I could whip up a dozen anytime of the week, not just for Sunday," she said proudly.
Her hobbies include Saturday volleyball with the gang at The Village, singing with the entertainers who visit The Village and chatting with friends. Agnes sings and yodels.
"When I was a young girl, I used to take long walks in the woods around my home, and it was so quiet and peaceful," said Agnes. "I decided to yodel to hear my voice carry, it was so comforting to me that I still do it to this day. It brings me joy!"
Agnes has five children. Chuck and Nancy both live in Gilbert, Linda lives in Andreas, Lamont is in Palmerton, and Laura lives in Kresgeville.
