It's pretty safe to say that the overall play wasn't up to the level that the teams would have liked during Tuesday's Mountain Valley Conference tri-match between Pleasant Valley, Lehighton and Pocono Mountain West.

Bears' head coach Steve Krechel didn't seem all too concerned with that fact, however, as his squad picked up two wins at Mahoning Valley Country Club to move to 4-0 on the season."It's so nice to grab two wins on an away course," Krechel said. "The kids didn't play as well as they probably could have, but they managed to struggle through their problems on the course and pull out the win, and I'm proud."Ryan Adamonis' 87 was the low score for the winners. Three other players Craig Roberts, Logan Beck and Cody Scully ensued with 95sObviously, consistency played a big role in determining the outcome. The Tribe's Jordan Knappenberger led his team with a 96 on the day, and teammate Zach Bowman had a 102. However, the next closest Indian had a 112. The Timberwolves suffered from the same situation as Tanner Franks posted a respectable 81 to take medalist honors. But the next best score for the team was a 95, followed by a 107.The Bears' tightness in scoring was the determining factor."Our practices have been much harder this season than in the past," Krechel said. "The kids are concentrating on golf much more than in the past and their desire to improve, has increased as well. That's been a tribute to Blue Ridge Country Club's difficulty level, with that being our home course."The Bears' youth is showing in many areas of their play as the season is just just getting underway. However, if their grouping remains as tightly-knit as it has been, they will remain a hard team to beat as they all continue to improve.Meanwhile, Lehighton (0-4) continued to battle hard with its competition, despite coming up short, dropping both matches. Like Pleasant Valley, youth is playing a part in the outcomes of the Indians' golf season. However, head coach Matt Fisher remains positive."All of the players need as much practice as possible and that's obvious to all of us," Fisher related. "We're young and even though we have a senior, this is his first season with the golf team. But the players are getting lower scores each week and are becoming more consistent with their games."Fisher hopes that if the team continues to possess the same work ethic and dynamic, that things should be sure to start going their way. "The kids are working really well together," he said. "They're supporting each other, and are becoming more and more into golf each day. They are really working well together towards their goals."Individually, both Krechel and Fisher talked about their players in high regard."I thought Ryan's 87 was pretty much a typical round for him," Krechel said about Adamonis' team-leading round. "I'm happy that we're 4-0, but I wish we all could have played a little better today than we did.""I think Jordan (Knappenberger) is going to just need some more matches to see what he needs to do in order to win and play winning golf," Fisher pointed out."I'd like to get more experiences in match play and hopefully continue to play with the same intensity as the season goes along," Knappenberger said.
