Pocono Mountain Regional police said 76-year-old Rosalee Roper of Tobyhanna needed to be transported to the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg, after she was attacked by three pit bulls at 8 a.m. Aug. 6.

The incident happened in a Pocono Country Place Development, Tobyhanna, Monroe County.

Police said they, along with Pocono Country Place security and the Pocono Mountain Regional ambulance, were dispatched to the intersection of Long Pine and Saw Mill roads in reference to a dog attack. Police said Roper told them she was taking a walk in the area when she was "mauled" by the three pit bulls. Police said the owner of the dogs came out of his residence and attempted to pull the dogs off Roper, and had to use a wooden stick to finally get them off her.

Police said charges are pending the outcome of the investigation.
