Weissport Mayor Jonathan Troutman asked council to consider appointing someone to inform residents that help is on the way when their grinder pump malfunctions.

"There needs to be an overlap," said Troutman.Troutman was at the Monday meeting of Weissport Council appealing to borough members to find a way to help businesses who can't wash their hands to residents who cannot do laundry for days at a time."All I am asking for is who is responsible for calling for help and then assuring the residents that help is on the way," said Troutman."People are being shut down and no one is getting back to them for days at a time," he continued. "People have no idea. They want peace of mind that someone is coming to help them."One resident said that after three calls telling of waste backing up there was no call confirming that help was coming.In other business, the council tabled signing a contract to place a seal coat on White Street at a cost of $13,179.Arland Moyer, council member said he feared it would be a waste of money."In some areas, the street is down to dirt," he said. "If we do this it won't hold up.The seal coal was to put on White Street to Forge."You have until the next meeting to decide," said David Horst, engineer. "Sept. 15 is the deadline to do seal coating."Horst said that many communities use the seal coat option to save money and support the road's integrity.Officer Steve Armbruster announced that because of the generosity of Palmerton Ambulance, he was given a medical emergency bag for the police car."I want to thank Mike Williams and Jean Solarczyk for this donation," he said.
