Oscar Arnold, well known former Palmerton police chief, had a narrow escape from death while checking on the rain-swollen Aquashicola Creek. The Palmerton police car, operated by Arnold, skidded into the creek early in the morning. It was while he was attempting to drive off the east approach to the Iron bridge over the creek near Lehigh Gap that the vehicle skidded on the muddy concrete and plunged into the water. Only by expert swimming did Arnold succeed in saving himself. The strong current pushed the car 100 feet.
