Moravian College Christmas Vespers to air on BRC TV-13

BethlehemAudiences across the state will share in the tradition of Moravian College Vespers, featuring the Moravian Choir and Women's Chorus, on Christmas eve and Christmas daywhen the one-hour program is broadcast on the Pennsylvania Cable Network (PCN).

The program of inspiring choral music will first be aired on PCN affiliate stations tonight 24 at 7 and 11:30 p.m. and on December 25 at 4 a.m.The program will also air numerous times on BRC TV13 Blue Ridge Communications including tonight at 10 p.m.; and Tuesday, December 25 at 8 p.m.The Vespers services, with Paula Ring Zerkle conducting the Moravian Choir and Eduardo Azzati conducting the Women's Chorus, was recorded on Saturday, December 1, 2012, in Central Moravian Church in historic Bethlehem, Pa., (The Christmas City). The Vespers service is an expression of two traditional forms of worship in the Moravian Church, the Singstunde and the Candlelight Service.A Moravian Singstunde (Singing Hour) is a service of music with no preaching. Since the 1720s, Moravians have been known for their worshipful singing. For the service, the music has been carefully selected and arranged to bring the Christmas message without need of a sermon.The Moravian candlelight service originated in 1747 in Marienborn, Germany, when candles with red trimming were distributed at the children's Christmas service.
