Then again, the receipt of Christmas gifts tends to have that effect, regardless of one's age.Northampton Community College nursing students on Wednesday visited the Blue Mountain Health System Adult Day Services program in Palmerton.And they certainly didn't come empty-handed, as the nurses delivered gifts to the clients, who anxiously unwrapped them to reveal their hidden treasures.Client Joe Kuhet, of Slatington, was clearly ecstatic over the fleece throw, gloves, and lotion he received.Nursing student Susan Broyles, president of NCC's Nursing Student Organization, told the clients "we just wanted to give back to you."Roxanne Downs, director of Adult Day Services, told the clients it was very generous of the nurses to come and visit with them."I think Santa Claus dropped some gifts off for you," Downs said. "We're very thankful they've come, and they get to develop a one-on-one relationship with the clients."Downs said Adult Day Services has held a holiday event for the clients each year since it opened in 1997.The Adult Day Service Center provides state-licensed respite care for older adults. In addition to free time and ample rest periods, clients participate in a wide variety of activities based on the client's particular abilities, including daily exercise, crafts, games, puzzles, pet therapy, cooking and baking, gardening, dancing, bingo, needlepoint and sewing, music and sing-alongs, "theme weeks" and field trips. Daily nursing supervision allows for the monitoring of clients' medical conditions.The center offers a warm, friendly atmosphere and the opportunity for seniors to develop friendships while participating in activities they enjoy. Participants also enjoy a light breakfast, hot lunch and an afternoon snack provided by the center. It is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
