ANDREW LEIBENGUTH/TIMES NEWS An extravagant display in Tamaqua More than 40,000 lights were hung in preparation for the South Ward Playground Association's Christmas Extravaganza held at the South Ward Playground in Tamaqua. This display was the largest of many similar displays held at the playground in past years. Tamaqua resident Justin Startzel, who spent hundreds of hours gathering and placing lights at the playground, stated his appreciation to everyone who helped. The event also included a visit by Santa Claus, hot chocolate, cookies, gift giveaways, face painting, cotton candy, popcorn, warming fire pits and so on. Startzel has coordinated and been the key decorator for the lighting since it started a number of years ago.
