The West End Rotary Club will welcome Dr. Norma Levine as its speaker on Thursday, Dec. 20. Dr. Levine will speak about Hanukkah and its Meaning for You.The club meets at 7:30 a.m. in the Western Pocono Community Library in Brodheadsville.Free mealsWith the Salvation Army soup kitchen closed for the week from Christmas Eve through New Year's Day, East Stroudsburg Methodist will be serving free meals for those in need, beginning Monday, Dec. 24. A continental breakfast is served at 10 a.m. and lunch at noon. The church will continue to serve said meals through New Year's Day, Jan. 1.For more information call (570) 421-3280.Clean, season-appropriate clothing is also available for soup kitchen guests whenever the kitchen is open.Cantata at churchEffort United Methodist Church will host its cantata, "Unspeakable Joy," at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 22. The choir, now 40 members strong, starts preparing in September for this special event.The church invites everyone in the church family and surrounding community to join them for a meaningful and uplifting Christmas experience. There is no admission charge.McMichaels UMC serviceThe Christmas Eve service at McMichaels UMC will be held at 7 p.m., Dec. 24. It will include Holy Communion, candlelighting and special music by the church's Praise Team. The public is welcome.Zion ServicesThree Christmas Eve services will be offered at Zion Lutheran in Brodheadsville on Dec. 24. They are at 3:30, 7:30 and 10 p.m. All are candle-lighting services with Holy Communion.Everyone is welcome.Christmas MassOur Lady Queen of Peace Church will hold Mass on Christmas Eve at 4, 7 and 10 p.m. Mass on Dec. 25, Christmas Day, is set for 10 a.m. and noon.Effort UMC servicesChristmas Eve Services at Effort UMC on Dec. 24 will be: 6 p.m., Family Service with Candle Lighting (note children are encouraged to come in their PJ's so they are ready for sugar plums dancing in their heads); 8 p.m., traditional candle light Service; and at 11 p.m. a traditional candle light service.Community members and visitors are welcome.
