Route 209 crash in Towamensing involves two cars and a trailer

An accident involving an elderly man may possibly have been caused when he fell asleep, reported State Police trooper Erin Snyder of the Lehighton Barracks.

Police noted that shortly before 2 p.m. Friday, Arthur Domaio, 82, of Lehighton, was traveling northbound on Route 209, Lehighton, in the area of Country Junction when his Nissan Altima crossed over the center line. His car then hit the driver left front side of a Nissan Pathfinder driven by Bolivar Sullivan, 38, of Kunkletown, who was traveling southbound on Route 209.Police said Sullivan attempted to avoid the collision and swerved his vehicle, jackknifing the Mobile Grooming trailer he was towing.The impact knocked the trailer from the Pathfinder and the trailer landed in the grassy area along Route 209, which borders the County Junction parking lot. The trailer was carrying two propane tanks which were also knocked loose into the highway.Snyder said that witnesses had told her that the Domaio vehicle had been weaving and that the witnesses believed that the driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel.Domaio received moderate injuries and was lifeflighted to St, Luke's Hospital, Fountain Hill.Sullivan received minor injuries.Both cars were severely damaged and were towed from the scene.Assisting at the scene were Palmerton Ambulance, Lehighton Ambulance, Towamensing Fire Company and Towamensing Township Fire Police.

State Police in Lehighton reported that the driver of this Nissan Altima may have fallen asleep before a crash that took place on Route 209, Lehighton. The driver was Arthur Domaio, 82, of Lehighton.
