Driver facing DUI after crash

A Schuylkill County driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence (DUI) following a two vehicle crash that occurred about 9:20 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 13, along SR61 in West Brunswick Township, just north of Port Clinton.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said Samantha Jo Fisher, 22, of Auburn, and Gretchen Erin Garrity, 36, of Pottsville, were both northbound with Fisher in the left passing lane and Garrity in the right lane.Troopers said for unknown reasons Fisher abruptly swerved her 2006 Scion to the right and into the rear of Garrity's 2010 Toyota Camry causing both drivers to lose control.Both vehicles began to spin several times while striking the guard rail off the east berm. Both vehicles came to rest facing south on the right travel lane. Both vehicles sustained disabling damages and had to be towed from the scene.Fisher, Garrity and her passenger, Regina Marie Garrity, 67, also of Pottsville, all sustained minor injuries.Troopers said Fisher was found to be under the influence of alcohol and was placed under arrest. She was taken to the Schuylkill Medical Center-S. Jackson St., Pottsville, for a blood test.
