Eldred Township residents should not see a tax increase in 2013.

During the recent Eldred Township Supervisor meeting, supervisor/secretary Sharon Solt asked the board of supervisors to advertise a meeting for Wednesday, Dec. 19 at 10 a.m. to approve the adoption of the 2013 budget. It received a 3-0 vote.The proposed budget is for $659,658 for the General Fund and $137,745.54 for the State Fund."The big news is that there will be no tax increase for the residents of Eldred Township," said Solt.In other business, the board voted, 3-0, to approve:• the Herman Borger Estate minor subdivision.• lands of Steven Kresge to be placed in existing Agriculutural Security Area in Eldred Township.Supervisor Chairman/Roadmaster Clair Borger reported that the road crew was still cleaning leaves and ditches before the next snowfall.Norman Burger, president of Polk and Chestnuthill Township Historical Societies and the Chestnuthill Township 250th Anniversary Committee, asked Eldred Township for any suggestions to help make the September 2013 celebration a success. He explained that in the beginning, Eldred, Polk and Ross townships were all part of Chestnut Hill Township. He asked for the township's input on whether or not it would like to participate in a parade, either a small one in Eldred or a larger one that would include all four townships.He also is asking for the townships to help in the raising of funds for the celebration. He displayed the banner for the event, which features the four township logos.Township solicitor Michael Kaspszyk said that a petition has been filed for a contempt court hearing against Eldred resident Paul Wingert on Jan. 24, 2013. Wingert continues to ignore a court order to stop hauling waste to his property located on Lower Smith Gap Road. The township had taken the case to the district magistrate Jolana Kravitz last Sept. 11, 2011 and won. Wingert had 30 days to clean up the property, which he failed to do. He is in contempt of court and is fined $300 a day.There will be a Walter Mock Park committee meeting on Wednesday, Dec. 12.Supervisor Chairman Borger said the Toys For Tots container is getting full but there is still room for donations of toys and can be dropped off at the municipal building during office hours.Resident Joe Cardello asked if anything was going to be done about the 57 Hotel burned property, stating it was an eyesore.Kaspszyk said he would send a letter to the owner, Frank Culpert, and to other property owners of burned properties in the township asking for them to clean up the properties.After the meeting, the supervisors invited everyone to stay for refreshments to celebrate the Christmas holiday.
