Although supervisors unanimously voted to increase the budget for 2013 by a half mill, there was some disagreement on the allocation of part of the extra half mill that taxpayers will be paying resulting in a 4-1 vote on the millage adoption. Supervisor Bruce Steigerwalt felt that some of the millage should have been moved into the building fund which the new $2,279,009 budget does not address.

"I wanted part of that millage to go into the building fund to keep it from being totally used up," said Steigerwalt when asked why he voted against the millage but for the budget. The supervisors are currently undergoing a project to build a garage behind the township office to house the road crew in response to a complaint filed with the Bureau of Labor and Industry about the office conditions by Police Chief Kenneth Barnes.While this is the second year the millage has increased by a half mill, this is the first time in several years it will cost the taxpayers a bit more. Last year, supervisors passed a budget with an extra half mill that was created by increased revenue during the calendar year. At the time the half mill was evenly allocated between the Road Machinery and Fire Equipment funds. This year the extra half mill is used to increase each of those funds to a half mill while the remaining 3.75 mills will be allocated to the General Fund resulting in a total levy of 4.75 mills for township residents. For a home valued at $100,000 in the township, the tax levy will be about $237.50 which is an increase of $25 over last year.There was no discussion during the meeting regarding the budget as Chairperson John Wieczorek made the motion to accept the budget seconded by Supervisor Frank Ruch. The first motion passed unanimously.The second motion though to accept the millage allocation was met with opposition in the vote by Steigerwalt who was the lone dissenter to the second vote, although Wieczorek, Ruch and Supervisors Linda Benner and Todd Weaver supported the millage allocation.
