The Rush Township board of supervisors intends to submit a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) application to the state for a replacement sewer line along Lincoln Drive.

Grant funds must be used for activities that benefit low to moderate income persons. The purpose of last evening's supervisors meeting in the municipal building was to provide an opportunity for citizens to comment on community development and housing needs of the township, which are tied into the possibilities of uses for the grant, but no one had anything to add.A preliminary budget is expected to be published sometime next month, and supervisors urged residents to come forward and provide additional comments and suggestions at the public hearing that will be held during next month's supervisors meeting.Next, an ordinance will have to be revised in order to allow the Environmental Advisory Board to go beyond the residents of Rush Township to fill its positions. Vice Chairman Robert J. Leibensperger said few people in the township qualify, and even fewer have shown interest. He added, however, that people in neighboring townships are interested, and the board plans to rewrite the ordinance to make it limit those who can fill the positions to ones in those townships.The function of the Environmental Advisory Board is to protect the environment within the township. According to Leibensperger, supervisors in the past have relied on its recommendations to remedy potential environmental contaminations and hazards.A budget meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 28 at 7 p.m., and the next board of supervisors meeting will be Thursday, Dec. 20 at 7 p.m., both in the municipal building.
