AOH distributes Thanksgiving baskets to nine parishes

Members of the Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH), Jim Thorpe's "Alec Campbell, Mauch Chunk Division #1" met together last Saturday at Molly Maguires Pub & Steakhouse in JT and prepared Thanksgiving Day food baskets to be delivered to each one of the nine Catholic parishes in Carbon County.

This is the fifth year that they have prepared these baskets each of which contained all the trimmings for a hearty holiday meal for a needy family. Each basket contained a whole turkey, instant potatoes, stuffing mix, corn, green beans, brown and serve rolls, cranberry sauce, and for desert, cookies and a chocolate cake mix.The nine parishes receiving the Thanksgiving Day food baskets are : Immaculate Conception and St. Joseph, both in Jim Thorpe; St. Peter the Fisherman in Lake Harmony; SS Peter and Paul in Lehighton; St. Katharine Drexel in Lansford; St. Francis of Assisi in Nesquehoning; Sacred Heart in Palmerton; St. Joseph in Summit Hill; and Our Lady of Lourdes in Weatherly. In keeping with the AOH's motto of "Friendship, Unity and Christian Charity", in addition to gathering and paying for the food and making up the baskets, the members themselves also personally delivered the food baskets to each parish. It will be the decision of the pastor of each parish to decide which family will receive the Thanksgiving dinner.Among their other charitable acts, in addition to these Thanksgiving Day dinner baskets the AOH also distributes Easter dinner baskets.
