Tamaqua giveaway Saturday also open to any disaster victims

Organizers of the free Tamaqua Community Giveaway and Donation Drop-Off are encouraging all residents with a 18252 zip code, no matter what income, to come and receive items during the giveaway planned for tomorrow morning. They added that it is also open to anyone from any community who suffered damage or great financial loss during Superstorm Sandy, fire or other disaster.

They will be giving away over 10,000 items; most of which are smaller household items.All donations, no matter how small or large, can be dropped off between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. at the storage lockers located next to Schickram's Car Wash, Rose Street in Tamaqua. The giveaway starts sharply at 9:15 a.m.They are asking residents to drop off all types of donations; to include small or large appliances, furniture, beds, toys, tools, clean clothing, clean bedding, household items and so on. The only items not accepted are floor model televisions, non-working appliances and old computer monitors. Anything clean, no matter how big or small, is accepted.All donations will be given away free to Tamaqua residents via a simple lottery drawing system. They added that donated items don't have to be in perfect condition. "All we ask is that they are usable and don't smell bad."Due to limited manpower and limited storage space, donations are not able to be transported by volunteers.Any items left over after the giveaway event are free for anybody, not just Tamaqua residents, to take.Thorn's Cycles and ATV's of Tamaqua is donating the land and storage facility for the event.For more information, call the organizer at (570) 668-1234.
