SJRA celebrates

Veterans DaySaint Joseph Regional Academy celebrated Veterans Day on Friday, Nov. 9.The students presented a program thanking all veterans for their service. BG (Ret) Michael Bimler, a former SJRA student and former resident of Jim Thorpe, was the guest speaker.The students performed various songs, recited poems and skits for the veterans in attendance. Bimler also presented the school with an American flag that was flown over Camp Blue Diamond, Ar Ramadi, in the Al Anbar Province of Iraq.The veterans were served refreshments after the program.Bible studyThe Women's Ecumenical Bible study at St. John's Lutheran Church, South Avenue, will meet on Wednesday, Nov. 14, at 6:30 p.m. Joan DeAcetis is the instructor and the group is studying the book of Acts. All women of the community are invited to attend the bimonthly meetings of the group.Leaf pick upBorough employees will be picking up leaves throughout the borough until Friday, Nov. 23. Leaves are to be placed at the curb for pick up and you must call the borough office, (570) 325-3025, to make pickup arrangements.WELCAThe WELCA group of Jim Thorpe will meet this evening, Tuesday, at 6 o'clock at St. John's Lutheran Church, South Avenue. The meeting was originally scheduled for Nov. 20, please note the change of date.Milk and cookies with Mrs. ClausSt. Joseph Regional Academy, 25 W. Sixth St., Jim Thorpe, will host a free milk and cookies with Mrs. Claus event at 6:30 p.m., on Tuesday, Dec. 11. Snow date is Dec.12.Children will receive their picture with Mrs. Claus, decorate their own cookie, do a coloring page, and enjoy some stories while eating cookies and milk.
