Bridge work results in traffic headache

Paving and construction work on the new Center Street (SR309) bridge in Tamaqua created a four-mile long traffic jam causing headaches for hundreds of motorists. Motorists stated traffic was backed up past the South Tamaqua strip mall and up to the Beacon Diner in Hometown. The congestion forced Tamaqua Police officers to direct traffic at numerous intersections throughout the borough. Tamaqua Fire Police volunteers also assisted police direct traffic.
