Representatives of the Asa Packer Mansion Museum in Jim Thorpe traveled to Harrisburg for the presentation of a proclamation recognizing the 100th anniversary of the acquisition of the Asa Packer Mansion by the Borough Jim Thorpe.

The proclamation reads as follows :House of Representatives Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Office of the Speaker In the House, October 15, 2012Whereas, The Asa Packer Mansion was built in 1860 in the town of Jim Thorpe; andWhereas, The mansion was the home of Asa Packer, 1805-1879, a prominent Pennsylvania industrialists, philanthropist, and public servant, who began his career making canal boats; andWhereas, Asa Packer founded boatyards, construction and mining companies, the Lehigh Valley Railroad and Lehigh University; andWhereas, The Asa Packer Mansion has been preserved, complete with original furnishings and is open to the public; andWhereas, In 1985, the Asa Packer Mansion was designated a National Historic Landmark; andWhereas, Asa Packer was one of the wealthiest men of his time in Pennsylvania and he contributed considerably to the educational, charitable and religious institutions; andWhereas, Asa Packer passed away on May 17, 1879, at the age of 73; andWhereas, In 1912, Mary Packer Cummings, Asa's daughter, devised her family's home and all its contents to the Borough of Mauch Chunk, now known as Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania, where it would remain as a memorial to her father and his accomplishments; therefore be itResolved, That the House of Representatives recognize the 100th anniversary of the acquisition of the Asa Packer Mansion by Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania.I certify that the foregoing is a true and correct copy of House Resolution No. 823, introduced by Heffley, Hennessey, Gingrich, Beninghoff, Bradford, Clymer, Denlinger, DiGirolamo, Gabler, George, Gillen, Grove, Hahn, Hess, Hickernell, Knowles, Mahoney, Major, O'Neill, Pickett, Rendshaw, Rock, Ross, Scavello, Staback, Swanger, Daley, and Fabrizio.Samuel H.
