Sandy scared the pants off Monroe County residents. But the day after, people were breathing a sigh of relief that her bark was worse than her bite.

Not to say they didn't feel her presence. Trees down, power lines down and 44,609 PPL customers and 18,342 Met-Ed customers without power is nothing to sneeze at.The West End of Monroe County saw its share of Sandy's forceful winds.According to Donald Zipp, Chestnuthill Township's Emergency Services Coordinator, 5,900 of its residents were still without power as of 10 a.m. Tuesday. He says that there are numerous roads closed because of fallen power lines and trees. Flooding was not an issue since there was only about two inches of rainfall Monday and there was only an inch Tuesday.Dave Albright, Chestnuthill Township manager says that they're responding to the calls as quickly as they can, thanks to Zipp and Deputy EMC John Murray manning the phones Monday night into Tuesday morning and sending out response teams.Nancy May, Polk Township supervisor/secretary said that there were only two roads closed as of Tuesday morning-Keller Road and Whitey B Road. Rt. 534 is littered with debris, much of the township is without power, but otherwise, seems to have weathered the effects of Sandy OK.Eldred Township has trees down and much is without power.There was no report from Ross Township, as of print time.
