4 interested in vacated Palmerton council seat

Several candidates have emerged to fill a vacant seat on Palmerton Borough Council.

Four applicants submitted their letter of interest to the borough as of Friday's deadline, according to borough Manager Rodger Danielson.The individuals who applied for the seat are Gerald Robertson, Holly Sell, Jereme Barkanic, and Gerard Alfano.The seat had been occupied by former council Vice President Chris Olivia, who resigned after he was named the borough's new mayor earlier this month. Barkanic also applied for the mayor's seat.Danielson said council will appoint a new member when it meets at 7 p.m. Thursday.Whomever is chosen will serve the remainder of Olivia's term, which expires Dec. 31, 2013.Olivia replaced former Mayor Brad Doll, who resigned last month because he and his wife have decided to move from the area.Doll had been mayor since November 2009. Before that, he served as a borough councilman, and on the borough's planning commission.
