Oktoberfest celebration Sunday

On Sunday, October 21st, Memorial Hall on East 10th Street in Jim Thorpe will reverberate with the music of an authentic 7 piece German band as the church of St. Joseph holds its 12th Annual

Oktoberfest fron noon to 7 p.m.As with any good festival, there will plenty of good homemade ethnic foods such as : halupki, haluski, kielbasa & sauerkraut, pork and sauerkraut, hot dogs, pierogies, potato patties, soft pretzels,pickled eggs, apple pastry, soup, German potato salad, and take-out food which will be available.Beverages will include : coffee, tea, soft drinks, wine coolers, hard cider, and German and domestic beers.The featured live entertainment will be provided from 1 to 5:30 p.m. by "The Rhinelanders", an authentic 7 piece German band from Hamburg.Other highlights will be children's entertainment, a balloon sculptor, a basket auction, a bake sale, a gourmet chocolate shop, games of chance, and cash raffles all day.There will also be an outdoor pavilion where various venders will be located.There will be a free shuttle bus pick up from downtown Jim Thorpe across the street from the Post Office and Subway Restaurant.Pickups start at 11:30 a.m. and continue on-the-hour until the last pick up at 5 p.m. with return trips leaving Memorial Hall on the half-hour ending at 6:30 p.m.Everything combined will contribute to the Oktoberfest atmosphere for the parish that was "Founded by German Immigrants in 1871".Admission and parking are free.
