Schuylkill crashes

State police at Schuylkill Haven reported investigating the following crashes on Schuylkill County roadways.

A hit and run occurred in the vicinity of 37 Main St., in Klingerstown, Upper Mahantago Township, about 1 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 13. Troopers said a vehicle was driven northbound and struck a parked 1997 Chevrolet Z24 Cavalier, with the driver then fleeing the scene.The hit and run vehicle is possibly a 2011 or 2012 white in color Dodge Journey last seen headed toward the village of Erdman.Troopers investigated a two vehicle crash about 6:03 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 12, along SR209, at S. Second St., in Tower City. Troopers said Valerie D. Witmer, 39, of Tower City, driving a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu, was northbound and attempting to make a left turn onto S. Second St. Due to glare of the sun she failed to observe a 2002 Dodge Dakota being driven southbound by Gary L. Scheib, 52, of Williamstown, and pulled in his path. The left front of the Dakota struck the right back tire of the Malibu.Witmer and passengers, two male juveniles ages 10 and seven, and Scheib and his wife, Gail L., 55, were all not injured.Troopers cited Witmer for vehicle turning left.Troopers probed two crashes on Sunday, Oct. 14.At 6:30 a.m. Erin R. Byerly, 17, of Schuylkill Haven, was driving a 1998 Toyota Corolla eastbound on SR895 in South Manheim Township, and while negotiating a narrow section of several curves, fell asleep. The car left the road and struck the guide rails along the berm. Byerly was not injured. She was cited for driving on roadways laned for traffic.The second crash occurred about 10:45 p.m. along Oak Grove Road, in Pine Grove. Troopers said Eric D. Lehr, 26, of Pine Grove, was driving a 1996 Honda Accord, westbound when, for unknown reasons, he crossed the center line and entered the eastbound lane. The vehicle then began to turn counter-clockwise and entered the south berm where it impacted with two trees, one on the passenger side front and the other passenger side rear.The vehicle bounced off the trees while continuing traveling counter-clockwise and came to rest in the eastbound lane.Both Lehr and his passenger, Joseph M. Currie, 20, of Pine Grove, were injured and flown by LifeLion helicopter to the Hershey Medical Center, for treatment of what troopers termed were moderate injuries.Troopers cited Lehr for driving on roadways laned for traffic. Troopers also said a driving under the influence (DUI) charge is pending against Lehr pending blood test results.
