Thorpe's Halloween in the Park a festive family-oriented event

Last weekend, Halloween in the Park was held at Memorial Park in Jim Thorpe.

The event, hosted by the JT National Night Out (NNO) Committee and the JT Community Watch, featured pumpkin painting, games, food, a campfire, Sponge Bob Squarepants, and hayrides. Many attendees came dressed in Halloween costumes."We want to continue to have family events in the park," Jim Thorpe Community Watch Coordinator, Jamie Solomon stated. "We also want to get more youth involved with events here at the park."Solomon and Jim Thorpe NNO Coordinator Cindy Henning, said that after the NNO event was held in August, members of the community expressed an interest in having more family-oriented events in the park.Two Boy Scouts along with Boy Scout leaders from Troop 555 were at the event to help with the hayrides.Boy Scouts Sal Troia, ninth grader at MCTI and Daniel Hutta, seventh grader at Jim Thorpe Area High School, took the guests on the hayride.Troia is working towards his Eagle Scout and Hutta is working towards his Star Scout.There was live music by local singers Shane McGeehane and Livi Moorison.There was also informational pamphlets on drug prevention and internet safety donated by state Rep. Doyle Heffley's office.
