Prothonotary's report

A total of 331 cases were started in September in the office of Carbon County Prothonotary Joann M. Behrens, according to a monthly statistical report released by the officeholder. A breakdown of the cases is as follows:Civil actions, 21; custody complaints, 27; district justice appeals, 6; declaratory judgment, 1; divorce complaints, 13; eminent domain/declaration of taking, 1; ejectment complaints, 2; equity action, 1; license appeals, 2; mortgage foreclosure complaints, 26; miscellaneous, 1; protection from abuse petitions, 34; quiet title action, 1; replevin complaint, 1; judgments, 186; and stipulations/waivers of liens, 8. The office staff also received and processed 67 applications for U.S. Passports.Behrens' financial report shows $24,144.07 was generated last month as follows: prothonotary's fees, $19,847.31; interest income $.89; PFA Surcharge, courts, $25; PFA Surcharge, Sheriff, $65; custody fees, $500; and data processing fees, $3,705.87.The prothonotary also remitted $2,714.45 the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Revenue, representing state fees collected locally, and $72 to the Administrative Offices of the Pennsylvania Courts, this being surcharges on new custody cases in accordance with Act 119 of 1996.
