Bloomsburg Fair rises from the mud, flood

Crowds filled the Bloomsburg Fair over the weekend. Last year's flooding at the fairgrounds resulted in its first closing for the first time in 157 years. Organizers of the fair dedicated this year's fair to all the faithful volunteers to routinely donate their time and to hundreds that donated their time over the past year to help in the cleanup and repair of the fairgrounds.

Restoration of the the fairgrounds cost $2.5 million, including $300,000 in drainage work. Fences had to be repaired along the race track as well as many structures, including barns, stables, the bleachers and grandstand."Today, the fairgrounds are bustling with activity, but it was a very different picture last year," said Lt. Gov. Jim Cawley, who visited the fair recently. He added that the state's recovery from last year's floods is an ongoing success story as leaders "continue to work together to rebuild and prepare for the future."To recoup some of the losses from last year's damages, tickets have increased from $5 to $8.For more information about the fair, goto
