Jim Thorpe's Lynch remains in critical condition

An Albrightsville teenager injured in a car crash Sunday remains in critical condition at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township.

Khaaliq Lynch, 17, was badly hurt when a car in which he was a passenger crashed while racing with another car, according to a report issued by state police at Fern Ridge.Lynch, a junior and star athlete at Jim Thorpe Area High school, was flown to the hospital after the crash, which happened at 12:06 p.m. along Jonas Road in Chestnuthill Township, police said.By this morning, dozens of friends had left messages on Lynch's Facebook page, wishing him well. The teen excels in basketball, football and track.According to police, the car was being driven by a 17-year-old, also of Albrightsville. The car was being driven westbound, racing another vehicle being driven by another 17-year-old.As a third vehicle approached from the east, its driver swerved to the right to avoid a head-on collision with the two speeding vehicles.The first racing vehicle swerved to the right in front of the other vehicle it had been racing. The operator then lost control of the vehicle. It slid across the road and struck a wooden fence.On impact, one of the fence posts penetrated the rear window of the vehicle, striking Lynch in the head.The other racing vehicle also contained juveniles, troopers said. The eastbound car that swerved to avoid the racing vehicles had five passengers in it. It ended up in a field with no one injured.Troopers said multiple citations will be filed against the driver of the vehicle that crashed and also the driver of the other racing vehicle.
