There will be something of interest to see and do for every member of the family during this busy upcoming weekend in Weatherly.

Residents of the borough and surrounding area will have the "Fairway Subaru Weatherly Hill Climb", the "Trainworks Festival", and the "Weatherly Area Museum" dedication to visit and enjoy.The weekend will start off with a parade through downtown Weatherly at 6 p.m. followed by a meet-the-drivers at the hill climb pit area.The public is welcome to come up and meet the drivers and ask questions about their cars and careers.Saturday and Sunday, there will be racing from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both days.Admission and parking are free and there will be plenty of good food available provided by non-profit groups, games, and a National Guard display.Sunday, about lunchtime, Pa. Sen. John Yudichak; State Rep. Doyle Heffley, 122nd District; and County Commissioners are expected to visit the event.On Saturday only, there will be a car show behind the Citizens Fire House from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.Following the racing on Saturday, about 4 p.m., there will be a 5K Run on the hill.Also in Weatherly, on Saturday at 10 a.m. there will be the Dedication and Grand Opening of the 'Weatherly Area Museum" at the site of the Weatherly Train Works project.The Weatherly Train Works is the new name that has been given to the building and grounds that have been commonly known as "The Weatherly Steel".Prior to that, the site was the location of shops of the Lehigh Valley Railroad which were built for the construction and repair of railroad locomotives.The new museum is located in the former Dispatch Office since that building was in the best shape of all on the property.Running in conjunction with the Hill Climb, the Trainworks Festival will feature crafters, a flea market, food, and children's activities.The Weatherly Area Museum will be featuring the collection of artifacts of well-known local historian Jack KoehlerThe Festival at the "Trainworks" will run from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturday and from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Sunday.For the hill climb, the Weatherly Hill Climb Association is expecting to have 90 or more cars participating in the two-day event.Each driver will try to finish the 1.1 mile course in under 60 seconds while climbing through an elevation change of about 340 feet.According to some Weatherly Hill Climb Association members, out of all the hills on the East Coast this is the most challenging.While it might not be the fastest, there are some corners with grades so steep that one cannot walk up the sides of them.The hill consists of uphill straights leading into hairpin turns, one called "the Wall" has to be seen and driven to be believed.This is followed by a hairpin turn, a short run to another hard right hand turn and then the "Jump" where most cars leave contact with the pavement.From this point the rest of the hill consists of a short straight leading to a long sweeping turn to the finish that tests the tires grip on the road as well as the driver's nerve.After the completion of the hill climb events on Sunday, trophies will be handed out to the drivers about 4 p.m.To get to the Weatherly Hill Climb, after leaving Route 93 in Hudsondale and driving into Weatherly, at the first stop sign, turn right and drive over the creek and a set of railroad tracks.Turn left at the first opportunity and proceed parallel to the creek and follow the street as it turns right until you see the Citizens Fire House on your right.During the hillclimb hours this street, beginning at the fire house, serves as the paddock area and will be closed to all but race cars.Visitors can turn left just prior to the fire house and find a parking space, then may walk on the street serving as the paddock area to reach the hill climb.So stop on by to Weatherly this weekend, show your support for these events, and have a great time.
