Bluegrass/Heritage Festival Saturday at Mauch Chunk Lake

The Sixth Annual Heritage Festival will be held this upcoming Saturday, Sept. 15 beginning at 10 a.m. at the scenic Mauch Chunk Lake Park located in Jim Thorpe, Carbon County.

The festival pays tribute to local coal mining heritage and includes a number of bluegrass performances throughout the day and evening.There will be an admission accepted to park grounds for adults. Children 12 and under are admitted free.Performers will include Coal County Express and Mason Porter in addition to several other folk-style and bluegrass musicians. Cannan's Band performs at 10 a.m., Jupiters Arrow at 11:25 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.; Texas Rose at 12:15 p.m. and 6:20 p.m.; The 3 of Us at 1:05 p.m. and 7:10 p.m.; Coal County Express at 1:55 p.m. and 8:10 p.m.; Aimless Pursuit at 2:45 p.m. and 9:10 p.m.; and Mason Porter at 3:35 p.m.The performances will be held near the all-purpose field by the beach area. There is no seating so folding chairs are recommended.A number of food vendors, crafters, and historical displays will also be featured and children will enjoy pumpkin painting and hayrides along the historic Switchback Trail.Mauch Chunk Lake Park is a county-owned park that earned recognition as the National Watershed of the Year in 1978. The park attracts more than 100,000 visitors annually and has recreational facilities for overnight camping, swimming, hiking, fishing, and boating.
