Palmerton Area Historical Society will hold its regular general monthly meeting on Monday, Sept. 10, in the Knight's Gallery of the Palmerton Area Library. A brief business meeting starts at 7 p.m. followed by the program. The audience will participate in a challenging Government Quiz.

Sept. 11 serviceLIFE - Lehighton Interfaith Fellowship is holding a 911 Remembrance Service at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11 in the Lehighton Park Amphitheatre. The speaker will be the State Rep. Doyle Heffley. Music will be provided by Robert Fatzinger on the keyboard with an ecumenical choir.Other participants are: Rose Marie Austin, Sts. Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church; The Rev. Jane Bender, All Saint's Episcopal Church; Shirley Radler, Trinity Lutheran Church; Barry Shupp, Zion United Church of Christ; and Shirley Stamm, First Presbyterian Church.Attendees are asked to please bring a candle to be lit at the proper time. In the event of bad weather the service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, Third and Iron Streets, Lehighton.Fungus FestivalTuscarora State Park will be hosting a mushroom identification program from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, in the Visitor's Center. Participants are asked to bring in the mushrooms they would like to have identified. The program will be given by a local field mycologist, Joe Lankalis. Prior to the program, collect the mushrooms and place them in a brown paper bag in the refrigerator to preserve them. The program is open to all ages and is free. Contact Robin at 570-467-2506 for further information.Swatara State ParkTrail Hike organizedJoin Naturalist Robin Tracey from Tuscarora State Park for a hike at Swatara State Park on Thursday, Sept. 13. The trail is seven miles in length and moderate. The trail runs parallel to Swatara Creek and a fossil bed.The group will be hiking down to the cabin in the park and looking for wildflowers. Participants should meet on the parking lot on Swopes Valley Road just off of Route 443 in Suedberg at 10 a.m.Dogs are welcome, but must be leashed and get along with other pets and people.
