No discussion on zip line project

The September supervisors' meeting in Penn Forest Township opened with a warning from Chairman Paul Montemuro that no discussion on a proposed zip line project would be allowed during the public session.

Montemuro went on to state that the plans had been filed and were before the township planning commission. Township administrator Cindy Henning said that the earliest that the commission would meet to discuss the plans would be Sept. 24.Henning also stated that due to a conflict, the discussion might be put off until the Oct. 22 meeting. Residents who wish to attend the planning commission meeting should check the TIMES NEWS, or contact the township to confirm the meeting date.In the meantime, residents who are interested in the plans may review them under the Freedom of Information Act. Interested parties must make an appointment to do so. Contact Henning at (570) 325-2769 to make an appointment. The plans are entitled NAVITAT Pocono Mountains Land Development. In other business, the township has been working on an amusement tax ordinance and is in the process of creating a Parks & Recreation Board. A workshop has been set for Sept. 11 at 6 p.m. to address both these issues. The workshop is open to the public.Montemuro noted that the garbage fee schedule for 2012/2013 will be essentially the same as the current schedule, with no increases.Lastly, the supervisors wanted to clarify that they have stepped up security throughout the township building due to several incidents over the past few months. All meetings in the main meeting room are both audio and video-taped. The rest of the areas are video only. The board passed a motion to keep all video recordings for no more than 60 days before they will be erased.
