The Tamaqua Seniors met Aug. 16 at the Tamaqua Community Center with 76 members and one guest, Norman Vorchheimer, in attendance. Vice president Nancy Gerber conducted the business session and provided her weekly report. Secretary Joan Ann Garber provided her reports from the Aug. 2 meeting and the Aug. 9 picnic.Rose Vallee provided the invocation, entitled "My Life's Been Touched."The meeting concluded with cards and social games.The group meets every Thursday at 1 p.m., at the community center. Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join. The center is handicap accessible.Back to schoolThe Rush Elementary School will conduct a Back to School Night this Thursday, from 6 to 8 p.m. The evening will include an orientation session for incoming kindergarten students and their parents. The morning kindergarten session will begin at 6:30 p.m., while the afternoon classes session will be held at 7:30 p.m.Additionally, teachers of the first grade and kindergarten plus classes will be conducting informational sessions, beginning at 7 p.m. These sessions will provide a review of the curriculum and an explanation of routine procedures.West Penn Elementary School will also have kindergarten orientation this Thursday, with the morning session meeting at 6:30 p.m. and the afternoon session at 7:30 p.m.Crime watchThis month's Tamaqua Crime Watch meeting scheduled for this evening has been postponed to next month, Wednesday, Sept. 26 at the Tamaqua Borough Hall, 320 E. Applications are available at the borough office Monday through Friday.Meet the RaidersThe Tamaqua Area School District's Meet the Raiders Night will be held today, beginning at 7 p.m., at the Tamaqua Sport Stadium. All fall sports' participants, cheerleaders and coaches will be recognized, as will the Raider Marching Band. The band will perform its field show.There is no charge for admission.Bethany ECThe Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 a.m. traditional and 10:30 a.m. contemporary worship services this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church.
