Lansford woman dies in accident

An 82-year-old Lansford woman died Friday afternoon after her car veered off Laurel Drive in Summit Hill.

Margaret Piech, of 7 Tunnel St., was driving a 2008 Kia on Laurel Drive, commonly known as the Mahoning side of Bugzie's Mountain, headed toward Mahoning Township when her van left the road as she rounded a curve. The car struck a large boulder, then flipped back onto the road, said Summit Hill police Officer Lori Leinhard.Piech's car crossed the northbound lane, continuing for some distance before hitting the boulder, knocking it loose from the bank. The car then came to rest on its roof.Piech was pronounced dead at the scene.Police got the call about the crash at 1:57 p.m., Leinhard said.
