Bodies of two found in park in Monroe Co. had been shot

The bodies of two East Stroudsburg men who apparently had been shot to death were discovered in Coolbaugh Township Park, Tobyhanna.

According to a press release from township Police Chief Harry W. Lewis, a patrolman from Pocono Mountain Regional Police Department was conducting checks of the park at 2:30 a.m. when he discovered the men.They were identified as Bertoldo Velez, 55, and Joseph King, 38.One of the men was found inside a vehicle and the other on the ground, next to the vehicle.Although both had suffered gunshot wounds, the cause and manner of death have yet to be determined until autopsies are performed today at Lehigh Valley Hospital.The Pocono Mountain Regional Police Department, along with the Monroe County District Attorney's Office, the county coroner's office and Pennsylvania State Police, is investigating the shootings.Lewis said that although no arrests have been made, it does not appear to be a random act of violence.According to an AP report, Monroe County Coroner Bob Allen said the men, who were neighbors in Stroud Township and both worked at a local envelope company, were likely slain at the scene Thursday night.
