Driver facing DUI after crash

A Schuylkill County driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence (DUI) following a one vehicle crash that occurred about 3:20 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 11, along SR125, a quarter-mile north of the Echo Valley Campground in Tremont Township.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said Ethan Reiter, 22, of Pine Grove, was operating a 2002 Nissan Sentra southbound when he fell asleep at the wheel and lost control.The car traveled onto the east berm and continued on it for about 57-feet before impacting with a tree with the front end. The car then continued south on the berm another 15-feet before impacting with large boulders.After impacting with the boulders the car turned onto the passenger side and traveled another 18-feet on its side before impacting with a PennDOT road sign. Then it continued three more feet before it came to rest on the east berm on the passenger side facing east.Reiter was taken to the Schuylkill Medical Center-E. Norwegian St., Pottsville, for treatment of minor injuries. He was also found to be under the influence and submitted to a blood test. The DUI charge is pending the test results, troopers said.Damages to the vehicle were termed severe.
