This will be an evening of light music featuring three graduating seniors as soloists. The concert will begin with the march, "Old Comrades" by Tieke followed by a very delightful number, "Overture Energico" by James Barnes. This number, unlike many overtures, is peppy with some very delightful melodies. The band will feature several numbers which will bring back memories for the older set. Included will be a medley of Gershwin tunes, a medley of Henry Mancini favorites, tunes made famous by Barry Manilow and "Hits From The Twenties." Also the band will play "Say It With Music" and "Caravan."On a more contempory note, the band will play selections from the movie "Titanic."At the July concert the band featured several recent high school graduates. At the August concert, three more graduates will be featured as soloists.First on the program will be Laura Cressley playing the flute solo "Theme from 'Shindler's List'" Laura will be entering Kutztown University majoring in music education.Peter Petrack and Adam Reichard along with Joseph Plechavy III will be featured in the trombone trio "Bugler's Holiday." Peter will be entering Moravian College majoring in music while Adam will be going to Kutztown University as a secondary ed major. Joe Plechavy is not a recent graduate, but a recent retiree. Joe has been first trombonist for a number of years and is also the conductor of the Palmerton Band.Benny Heater of Weatherly is sponsoring two marches by John P. Sousa in honor of Wilbur Gildner who recently retired after over fifty years service to the band. The marches are "El Capitan" and "The Stars And Stripes Forever." While Wilbur has retired, band members said they hope it is not permanent and hopefully they will see him back in the trombone section of the band shortly. In case of inclement weather, the Weatherly concert will be cancelled while the Lehighton concert will be held in the Boys and Girls Band Hall, Sixth and Cypress Sts., Lehighton. The music for this concert is provided by donations from local businesses, professionals and music lovers throughout the region.
