Heydt anchored line on '04 team

Jacob Heydt graduated from Carbon County Technical Institute in 2005 and was a member of the 2004 Olympians football team that finished with a 10-1 record. The 2004 team was the only team to finish the regular season with a record of 10-0 in school history.

While at Jim Thorpe, Heydt lettered in track as well as football throwing the shot put, discus, and javelin. Heydt also participated on the Olympian Power Lifting team in his four years, placing second in the 242-pound weight class at the Glen Mills Tournament in 2003.Heydt was a four year member of the football team was a lineman on both offense and defense. He made the most impact of his career at the offensive tackle spot. The Olympians offense had a balanced attack in 2004 that scored a total of 426 points for the season, averaging 38.7 points per game and had an average margin of victory over 30 points per game.As an offensive tackle on that unit, Heydt solidified a line that not only opened up holes for Jim Thorpe all-time leading rusher Jason Figura, but gave signal caller Dan Flizack adequate protection when throwing the football.Heydt was named to the Republican Herald All-Area team, Reading Eagle First Team Offense, and Morning Call AAA All Star squad. He was also named to the TIMES NEWS first team offensive squad and was an Honorable Mention consideration for the the Big 33 Game. Heydt's most prestigious award in his senior season was when he was named to the AAA Pennsylvania All-State team by the Associated Press."Jake was our anchor up front," said Jim Thorpe head man Mark Rosenberger. "He was physical and had great technique. He might have been one of Jim Thorpe's best lineman ever."Heydt is married to the former Marie Melber of Jim Thorpe and has one son by the name of Gabriel. he is employed by Air Products in Allentown.Heydt still resides in Jim Thorpe with his family.The Jim Thorpe Area Sports Hall of Fame banquet will be held on Saturday, Aug. 18 at the Jim Thorpe Memorial Hall.
