Teacher charged with having unlawful contact with student

A teacher at a Schuylkill County high school has been charged with having unlawful contact with a teenage girl.

State police at Schuylkill Haven charged Matthew Ryan Pfautz, 29, of Blue Jay Drive, Stevens, Bradford County, on Thursday with corruption of minors and the unlawful contact count.According to Trooper Chad M. Smith the charges stem from incidents involving a 17-year-old girl at Pine Grove Area High School, where Pfautz is an English teacher. The incidents occurred between Sept. 1, 2001, and May 20, Smith said.Smith charged that Pfautz verbally and via phone texts, knowingly enticed or encouraged the victim to perform sexual acts with him within and outside the high school. The victim refused, Smith said.Smith accused Pfautz of making lewd comments and sent lewd text messages to the victim while performing his duties at the school.The charges were filed at the office of District Judge Carol A. Pankake, of Tremont.
