Residents of Maple Shade Meadows Assisted Living Center in Nesquehoning took a trip down memory lane over the weekend by holding a "Sock Hop" and a classic car show.

The center was decorated in a 50s theme and the bistro was transformed into Linda's Doo Wop Diner as residents reminisced about their younger days.Maple Shade Meadows resident Josephine Andreas recalled her first pair of saddle shoes that a local librarian had purchased for her when she was 14 or 15."I wore them everywhere," she said.Resident Steve Parker had a real love for the ladies back in the day and especially enjoyed his time spent courting them in Germany during the Korean War."I had blonde hair and blue eyes and at 19, I loved it over there!" said Parker.The Car Cruise, held in conjunction with the Jukebox Cruisers, gave residents and the general public an up-close look at some beautifully kept classic, antique and special interest vehicles.Musical entertainment for the event was provided by DJ Ray.Employees of Maple Shade collected nonperishable food items in lieu of an admittance fee to benefit the St. Joseph's Ecumenical Food Pantry.Proceeds from the sale of refreshments benefitted the American Cancer Society and the Lion's Club-sponsored Leader Dogs for the Blind.Over 150 spectators came out to enjoy the warm weather and the car show.
