Shenandoah man dies in fire

A Shenandoah man died of injuries he sustained in a fire that destroyed his home and a adjoining property.

State police at Frackville identified the victim as Samuel J. Nitolo Jr., 53, of 222 W. Columbus St.According to troopers the fire was discovered about 9:37 p.m. Firefighters arriving on scene were told that the homeowner was still in the building.Firefighters entered the building and found Nitolo in the second floor room. They managed to get him out and he was taken to the borough helipad where a medical helicopter was waiting to transport him to a trauma center.He died at the helipad and was pronounced dead at 10:44 p.m. An autopsy is scheduled.The fire also damaged a home at 220 W. Columbus St., that was unoccupied. Troopers said the cause of the fire has not yet been determined. No other injuries occurred.
