Reading is fun!

Over 20 Penn-Kidder Elementary students recently celebrated the Fourth of July by making patriotic streamers and paper hats after reading the book Corduroy's 4th of July. They also paraded around the library and hallway, waving their projects.

During the weekly summer camp event, held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to noon at the school's library, students have the opportunity to participate in different themed weeks and take out books to read as part of the Scholastic Summer Challenge. As of this morning, Jim Thorpe Area School District students have read 351,977 minutes and rank 34th in the Read Around the World challenge.Upcoming activities include, July 10 and 12, Teddy Bear week; July 17 and 19, Dr. Seuss week; July 24 and 26, Fun in The Sun; July 31 and Aug. 2, Under the Sea; Aug. 7 and 9, A Campin' We Will Go; and Aug. 14 and 16, Creepy Crawly week.
