Schuylkill man jailed for assault

A Schuylkill County man was jailed on Wednesday, July 4, for aggravated assault and other offenses. State police at Schuylkill Haven said the incident began as a domestic dispute at 372 Tremont Rd., in Pine Grove Township, about 6:45 p.m.

Troopers said at that location Scott R. Tobin, 43, and Laurey A. Schaeffer-Lewis, 34, got involved in a dispute during which Tobin allegedly grabbed the hair of Lewis and threw her to the ground. He then left the home.Upon returning Tobin and a 16-year-old male at the residence got into a verbal argument that turned physical when Tobin grabbed the juvenile and took him to the floor and began choking him.While he was choking the juvenile, Lewis struck Tobin in the back twice with a ax handle. Tobin then stopped choking the juvenile and a verbal argument ensued between the juvenile and Tobin. The male juvenile then struck Tobin in the head with a closed fist.Tobin then picked up a wooded baseball bat that was laying on the floor and struck the juvenile with the bat on the left side of the forehead and temple area. The juvenile then lost consciousness briefly.When troopers arrived Tobin fled the house but was taken into custody a short distance away.He was arraigned before on-call District Judge Christina Hale, of Frackville, on charges of aggravated and simple assault, possession of drug paraphernalia, recklessly endangering another person, and harassment. He was committed to the county prison in Pottsville after failing to post $50,000 straight cash bail.Troopers said the juvenile will have a citation filed against him charging him with harassment.
