Mahanoy City man pleads not guilty to murder

A Mahanoy City man pleaded not guilty to a charge of murder during arraignment court held at the Schuylkill County courthouse on Monday before District Attorney Karen Byrnes Noon.

Also, 16 area residents were among 69 defendants who were arraigned on criminal charges and all entered pleas of not guilty to the charges filed against them and requested trial by jury.Jarvin Malik Huggins, 18, Mahanoy City, was charged by Trooper Edward Lizewski last April 5 with criminal homicide, burglary, robbery, aggravated assault, criminal trespass, theft and unauthorized use of vehicle.Information filed to court claims Gene M. Slavinsky, 49, was found deceased in the basement of his home at 408 W. Centre St., Mahanoy City, from a severe head injury caused by a blunt force. Investigation disclosed burglary of a laptop, cash, prescription medication and other items taken from victim which led to the arrest of Huggins, who was found in possession of the laptop, and was seen driving the victims' car after the body was found.Other defendants arraigned were:Anthony Louis Kehl, 41, of 27 Tuscarora Park Rd., Tamaqua R.D., charged by Tamaqua Patrolman Michael Hobbs, last Jan. 25 with possession of drug paraphernalia in a parking lot of a mini mart and public drunkenness.Chad Edward Zeigler, 22, of 123 E.
