A Mahanoy City man pleaded not guilty to a charge of murder during arraignment court held at the Schuylkill County courthouse on Monday before District Attorney Karen Byrnes Noon.

Also, 16 area residents were among 69 defendants who were arraigned on criminal charges and all entered pleas of not guilty to the charges filed against them and requested trial by jury.Jarvin Malik Huggins, 18, Mahanoy City, was charged by Trooper Edward Lizewski last April 5 with criminal homicide, burglary, robbery, aggravated assault, criminal trespass, theft and unauthorized use of vehicle.Information filed to court claims Gene M. Slavinsky, 49, was found deceased in the basement of his home at 408 W. Centre St., Mahanoy City, from a severe head injury caused by a blunt force.
